Talking with your kids

  1. Listen carefully to what they are saying.
  2. Say yes more often. Smile when talking to them.
  3. Ask them about themselves. Good eye contact.
  4. Provide updated and accurate information.
  5. Be a good example.
  6. Know their friends and talk openly.
  7. Set boundaries that keep them safe.
  8. Establish clear family rules and boundaries.

Some parents and caregivers may question the appropriateness of talking about sensitive topics with their children. But consider this: Our kids are already hearing about issues from TV, movies, magazines, video games, and friends. Take any opportunity to offer your children information that is also in sync with your own personal values and moral principals.
